Best Sunset Spots in Lefkada

For an open-sea sunset, start with Lefkada’s west coast. Choose one place that fits the day you are already having, then leave time for the return journey. A good evening does not need a race between viewpoints.
Choose the setting, not a checklist

Athani: make the view part of your stay
Athani is a useful base for the southwest coast, with roads branching toward Gialos, Egremni and Porto Katsiki. A confirmed west-facing terrace can let you enjoy the evening without another drive. The village name alone is not proof of a sunset view: check the property’s outlook, neighboring buildings and outdoor seating.
Read the Athani area guide if you are comparing a quieter southwest base with a busier coastal village. Dinner, private-chef arrangements and transfers should be confirmed separately; a scenic location does not guarantee a service.
Porto Katsiki: cliffs, light and a simple return plan
Choose Porto Katsiki when you are already spending the day in the southwest. The headland and white cliffs give the scene its character. Stay in designated, accessible areas, respect barriers and local notices, and do not use an unmarked cliff edge or roadside stop as a viewpoint.
If the group has already had a long beach day, an earlier look at the coast followed by dinner back at your base can be the better choice. There is no need to repeat the drive simply to tick off sunset.
Egremni, Gialos or Kathisma?
Keep Egremni or Gialos for a day already focused on that stretch of coast. Plan the return before going down to the beach, not after dark. If access, heat or the walk back do not suit your group, choose another setting rather than forcing the plan.
Kathisma works naturally with an Agios Nikitas-area day. If you want dinner or drinks, confirm the particular venue’s hours and booking arrangements. Avoid assuming that a beach bar, parking area or seasonal service will be available outside its operating period.
A better sunset evening
- Check the local sunset time for your actual date and allow time to settle in before it.
- Check the forecast and current local access information; a west-facing view does not guarantee a clear horizon.
- Choose safe parking and a return route in daylight. Bring footwear suited to the approach.
- Keep dinner nearby or back at your accommodation. Arrange transport if the evening includes alcohol.
